STANDARDS BASED GRADING INFO
Learning can be a messy process. Why should a learner that needs more time to practice be punished with low practice grades if he/she ultimately learns as much as the quick learner?
That's exactly what many traditional grading systems do!

What is Standards Based Grading?
Standards Based Grading (SBG) is a leading topic in modern educational research. The basic idea is that the traditional way of assigning grades does not accurately reflect learning, nor tell a student where their individual strengths and weaknesses are! Traditional grading is filled with lots of fluff that can allow a compliant student to succeed without knowing much, and a troublesome student to fail, even though they know a lot! Standards Based Grading is the way to overcome many of the problems of traditional grading systems. Using this approach, your child’s grade will reflect what they know in relation to the main standards of this course, without the extra fluff attached to many traditional grades. SBG also ensures that grades will never be used as punishment or reward, and their purpose will be to demonstrate a students' strengths and weaknesses so they can continue to improve their learning process.
Everything is centered around central course standards. Each is assessed based on a 4 point number scale. On a daily basis, the Number Scale (0-4) will be used to indicate how a student is doing on a particular topic. When it comes to assessment (test) scores, the 0-4 point scale will be used but will represent an accumulation of their understanding of all the topics within a standard.
Homework and practice scores will be entered in Parent Portal at their face value (0-4)
Due to the overwhelming numbers of entering up to 7 scores for a single test for each student, Summative Assessments will NOT be shown in Parent Portal. However, you will always be able to see your student's current grade which is based entirely on those assessments. I can always send you a screenshot of your student's gradebook upon request.
Your student's current grade will be entered in Infinite Campus based on the following conversion chart.
